Nut Free School
Malton Primary School aims to be a Nut-Free school. The school aims to protect children who have allergies to nuts while also helping them as they grow to take responsibility for what foods they can safely eat and to be aware of what foods may put them at risk. We do not allow nuts or nut products in school lunch boxes or for after school club snacks.
Food Intolerances & Allergies
If a child has a known food intolerance e.g. gluten, or an allergy to a specific food e.g. nuts, it is vital the school is kept informed. In the first instance parents should speak to the school office staff who will ensure that the child’s information is circulated to the necessary staff and the school cook.
It can also be arranged for the parent to speak to the school cook as in most cases they will be able to cater for a child’s specific needs without them requiring a totally different meal to the other children.
It is also important that all staff are aware of any intolerances/allergies as the child may be involved in cooking or an activity involving food during the school day
School Meals
Your child's school meal is one of the most important parts for the day. All meals at Malton Primary school are cooked on site in the school kitchen.
The school has a dining hall which serves a wide range of healthy cooked meals. We also offer a variety of jacket potato and sandwich options. Menus are sent home termly, displayed at the office and can also be found on the school website.

Free School Meals
Many of our families could get free school meals but do not claim for them; your child may be entitled to Free School Meals if you as the parent are in receipt of any of the following benefits:
- Income Support
- Jobseeker’s Allowance (income based)
- Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (but NOT Working Tax Credit)
Why Claim?
- Save hundreds of pounds per year
- Extra funding for the school in the form of Pupil Premium
- It’s your entitlement
- Other pupils and parents will not know you are claiming
At Malton Primary School all children in our reception class, year one and year two receive a free school lunch if they wish, and it is not necessary for any parents to fill in a Free School Meals application form.
However, we are able to claim extra money from the government which we use to help us provide further support for our children, and this money is linked to parents applying for Free School Meals. In order to continue claiming this money from the government, we need parents to re-register for Free School Meals.
So, if you receive a benefit that gives entitlement to Free School meals (as detailed above) please pop in to school reception where they can provide a form and you help fill it out or apply online using the link below:
Packed Lunches
As an alternative to school meals children may bring a packed lunch. This should be brought in a firmly closed box, bearing the child’s name. Insulated lunch boxes are recommended to keep food safe and fresh. Drinks must be brought in plastic or cardboard containers.
